What’s the history of this sign in the park?
This beautiful sign appeared in the park recently and I’d love to know the story behind it. Who made it? I gather from it’s orientation facing the water that it’s primarily for boat traffic to see. I think it’s wonderful, and would like to know the details.
[Edit 2-23-22: Thanks to comments left by several Woodland Shores property owners (see comments section below) I learned that this sign is a reproduction of a sign originally painted by Marilyn Hanny around 2007, “donated for long time friends and residents Ronnie Ecker and Brenda Sanders by the Hanny Family” and placed to welcome boaters to The Shores. Time took its toll on the original sign, so Carol Ann Davis was asked to rework it and she did a beautiful job! Many thanks to “Gordon and his family for the new sign and Casey Decker for making the frame and putting it in the ground.”]

This is a reproduction of the iconic sign painted by Marilyn Haney 10+ years ago.. It was weather worn and determined to need a new life. in the park. The original is stored by the family. I think Casey Decker had responsibility for the undertaking.. This sign may be the only reference to Woodland Shores being “A PRIVATE RESORT.'”
This is a representation of the original Woodland Shores sign painted by Marilyn Morris Hanny. Funds for the project were donated by the Hanny Family and the Deckers graciously took on getting it replaced and in place. Coming soon will be a plaque to tell the story with a photo of the original sign.
The original Woodland Shores sign was placed to greet all who boated to Woodland Shores. Gordon said It was hand painted by Marilyn Hanny in 2006 or 2008. The sign was donated for long time friends and residents Ronnie Ecker and Brenda Sanders by the Hanny Family. As time passed, the wall needed rebuilt, and the sign needed touched up. Gordon ask me if I would touch it up. I agreed, but was afraid I could not do it as she would have done it. After receiving suggestions about making something more permanent, it was decided to make it as you see it now. We can thank Gordon and his family for the new sign and Casey Decker for making the frame and putting it in the ground. Gordons family is making a plaque to put in the corner with a picture of the original sign, honoring Marilyn!
