Mystery swirling in night sky over Woodland Shores!

Wow!! Did anyone else catch that crazy sight in the night sky tonight around 7pm? We were just arriving home and when we got out of the car we were STUNNED to see a sight that was like something out of a Sci-Fi space series. From our viewpoint near the Woodland Shores entrance sign, looking toward the north, about 45 degrees above the horizon was a HUGE swirl looking very much like a whirlpool galaxy, right here in our northern sky!

It had subtle colors flowing throughout, and it spun, slowly, while at the same time the whole thing moved rapidly from north to south. I tried to take pics with my smartphone, but I was unsuccessful at getting a decent shot. Thankfully, while scouring the internet for answers about what the heck it was that we’d seen, I found an image of that same mystery swirl that was posted by a weather guy named Mike Collier in Tulsa.

The story goes that what we saw was part of a Space X Falcon 9 launch, in its 2nd stage, jettisoning fuel before falling back to Earth and splashing into the South Pacific.

I’m not crazy about the idea of having rocket fuel dumped across mid-America, but it sure did make for a gorgeous sight in the NE Oklahoma night sky.

I’m posting a screenshot of the image that Mike Collier (Tulsa weather guy) posted so you can get a better idea of what we saw.

And another image that comes close to depicting what we saw in the sky comes from a short article about the spectacle from KJRH. The final image is one that I took while standing in the road across from my house. My hands were shaking, and the thing was moving so quickly that I never did manage to get a great shot. I’m glad the news and weather people did.

Imagine you looked up and saw something like that, about the size of a dinner plate held at arms length. My photo can’t compare to the ones from KJRH. But I wanted to include it anyway, since it was taken right here in our neighborhood. It was so huge in the sky. Big, beautiful, and colorful. And so very fitting to have this experience from our driveway in this happy new life we’re making here in Woodland Shores.
