Woodland Shores in the Snow.
This is our first winter in northeast Oklahoma and we’re finding January to be a time of peace and quiet in Woodland Shores. Trees are bare, vegetation is dormant, and the lake is mostly free of boat traffic. Furry and flying creatures are much easier to observe, and creepy crawly slithery critters are nowhere to be seen. Lake life in January is definitely different — but just as enjoyable.

The free library has been an answer to one of my goals.—sharing books, encouraging reading, and offering a convenient way to foster the love of reading. My husband, Joe, , built the library and we were granted permission from the board to install it permanently. It has been a successful endeavor for 9 years.Watching it evolve into a meaningful place for those of all ages has definitely been a thrill for me. The community has participated in reading, sharing, and enjoying in a very inspiring way. Joe and I check on it every week, and appreciate the help from others in keeping it in shape. Thanks to everyone who actively takes part!!

Jan and Joe thank you both so much for building and maintaining that darling little library! Reading has been an important part of my family life all of my life. As an elementary school teacher I have a special place in my heart for children’s literature — especially picture books and non-fiction field guides.
